Rope skipping champ to visit South Lanarkshire

FORMER rope skipping champion Maarten Goedeme will pay a short visit to South Lanarkshire next week.

Maarten, from Belgium, will promote a wide variety of skipping techniques and routines which give young people and sports performers great enjoyment.

He will also show the benefits skipping has to fitness, co-ordination and training schedules.

Maarten is now a leading international skipping tutor and during the last four weeks he has been active in promoting skipping in Paris, Tokyo, South Africa, Belgium and London. He also appeared on BBC Children's programme The Slammer and has featured on many tv programmes and company commercials.

During his short visit to South Lanarkshire his programme will include several workshops for teachers, sports coaches and fitness instructors.

The workshops are being held at Larkhall Leisure Centre on Tuesday, June 10, from 6pm to 9pm and Wednesday, June 11, from 4pm to 6pm.

Maarten will also hold skipping sessions for primary school pupils in the Hamilton, Larkhall and Clydesdale areas.

Teachers and coaches who would like additional information or to reserve a place on the workshops should contact South Lanarkshire Leisure’s community recreation manager Millar Stoddart on 01698 476131.
