New drive to keep kids safe

LANARKSHIRE councils have joined forces on a campaign to promote public awareness on child welfare.

North and South Lanarkshire’s child protection committees are running adverts on buses travelling through the county with the message that adults worried about a child should take action.

Chair of South Lanarkshire child protection committee Brenda Doyle explained: “Children rarely tell if they are being abused or neglected – they rely on adults to pick up the signal and talk to someone who can offer advice or help.

“This may be a health visitor, a social worker, teacher, GP or police officer.”

The campaign is to run for eight weeks throughout the summer.

Anyone who is worried about a child or children should contact their local social work office, the police, or call the national helpline on 0800 022 3222.
