A HAMILTON fryer is on top of the world after he clinched second place at the pizza-making ‘Oscars’ in Italy.
Macera Antonio finished runner-up in the individual world championship held near Rome recently.
The 51-year-old, who works as a pizza chef at De Vito’s in Burnbank’s Glasgow Road, used a pizza topping including sausages, cherry tomatoes and buffalo mozzarella cheese to tantalise the taste buds of the judges.
Macera beamed: “I won’t stop now until I get first place.
“I went very close and it is not an easy competition.
“I really enjoyed the competition and I went to Italy with my wife and kid.”
Macera is no stranger to the competition.
Last year he finished 16th in the individual pizza-making competition and scooped fourth in the team competition.
He was part of the Scotland team who finished second and third during the previous two years.
Macera, who is known locally as Tony, added: “I would like to congratulate the Scottish team who finished third in the team competition.
“I normally put a team together to represent Scotland but I thought this year I would give someone else a chance.
“I am still proud to have finished second for Scotland.”
He certainly has developed a taste for pizza glory and is set to enter next year’s individual World Championships in the north of Italy.
Macera would like thank all the staff at the De Vito’s Burnbank shop for their support.
