Kathleen chalks up big cash win

A RETIRED headteacher is the final winner in our May £10,000 Cash Giveaway.

Kathleen Law (70), of Eriskay Avenue, Hamilton, logged her winning entry by phone last Saturday – and scooped £2500. Just under 600 readers tried to win the big cash prize.

Kathleen broke the news of her win to husband Fred (71), a retired architectural assistant, and then her daughter Pauline Law (40), who works as a producer on the BBC’s The Culture Show.

An excited Kathleen said: “I was initially in a state of shock when the Advertiser representative called me with the good news, and when he went into detail on the question I had answered, I knew it was genuine.”

“Fred was in the garden and when I told him I had splendid news, he said it was marvellous.”

Kathleen, who retired from the demolished Sacred Heart Primary School, Cumbernauld, after being headteacher for 22 years, plans to spend the cash on a touring holiday in Yorkshire in July with Fred.

She added: “The money will pay for the holiday and all the travelling costs, and we will also be increasing our sponsorship donation to Pauline, who is running the Race for Life soon.

“Pauline began running in the Race for Life after I contracted breast cancer eight years ago to raise money for the charity, and now that I’m fit and feel very healthy, we get involved by sponsoring her every year.”

Kathleen received her £2500 prize on Tuesday afternoon.

Last week’s question was: How much does an average tank of fuel cost? Kathleen answered correctly, £50.

That was the final chance to win £2500 cash in the May £10,000 Cash Giveaway competition, but look out for more reader offers coming soon.

Thanks and commiseration to everyone else who entered.
