SOUTH Lanarkshire Council have scooped the prestigious ‘Champion’s League’ Standards of Excellence Award for the second year running.
The award, which was only presented to two other Scottish councils, recognised South Lanarkshire Council’s achievement in the National Loo of the Year Awards 2007, when eight public conveniences won five-star status.
Two other South Lanarkshire premises achieved four-stars, and two more ranked three-stars.
The top-rated public conveniences included Hamilton Town House, Low Parks Museum, South Lanarkshire Council headquarters' conference and banqueting suite and Whitehill integrated facilities in Burnbank, as well as those at Main Street in Biggar, King Street in Rutherglen and Rutherglen Town Hall.
The public conveniences in Horsemarket, Lanark, and King Street, Larkhall, both received four stars, with Strathaven and Stonehouse public toilets achieving three-star awards.
In addition, SLC Headquarters Conferencing and Banqueting Suite and Rutherglen Town Hall facilities were both national category winners.
Councillor Gerry Convery, chair of the community resources committee, said: “This is a prestigious accolade for South Lanarkshire Council and our staff want to thank one and all for their exceptional performance, in particular our public loo ladies and gentlemen who extend great courtesy to both local people and tourists alike when they visit South Lanarkshire.”
