A REPORT from the National Autistic Society (NAS) revealed that over half the adults with autism in Scotland do not have enough support.
The report ‘Exist’ showed the experiences of adults with the condition have a miserable daily reality, feel isolated, ignored, and are unable to access the required support and are often completely dependent on their overburdened families.
The launch at South Lanarkshire Council headquarters, was attended by over 70 guests.
NAS councillor for Scotland Ross Macfadyen, said: “We hope that those in attendance will use the report to improve and develop their services for adults with autism.”
‘Exist’ signals a new phase in the ‘think differently about autism’ campaign, launched by NAS in October 1997.
Mr Macfadyen added: “The presentation from Nigel Rooke of the Glasgow Autism Resource Centre outlined the support they provide for adults with autism.
“It is only one of two such centres in Scotland and we desperately need these centres replicated in all Health Board areas.”
