On course for a dramatic year

A QUARTER drama student has been accepted to study at the prestigious Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama.

Colette Neill is currently finishing an HND in Musical Theatre at Coatbridge College.

She will now go on to attend a Masters in Performance in Musical Theatre at the RSAMD in Glasgow.

During her time at Coatbridge, Colette has performed in several college shows including A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Pirates of Penzance.

Her masters studies at RSAMD will involve acting, singing and dance classes.

The 20-year-old will also be given performance opportunities, which in the past have included the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and London’s West End.

She said last week: “The musical theatre course at Coatbridge has given me a great start in my studies and helped to strengthen my application to RSAMD.

“I can’t wait to start.”

Senior lecturer for performing arts at Coatbridge College, Jane Rothwell, said the department was very proud of Colette’s achievements.

“She is a talented and very capable student and has enormous potential.

“Colette shows talent for singing, acting and dancing.

“She is a real star in the making and we wish her every success for the future.”

Colette will take to the stage one last time with her fellow HND Musical Theatre classmates at the end-of-year diploma showcase at the Tron Theatre in Glasgow on Friday, May 30, at 3pm and 7.30pm.

Tickets costing £5 for adults and £3.50 concessions, can be purchased from Sarah Jane Rothwell on 01236 707874.
