Larkhall schoolgirl found dead in her home

Taylah Logan

HUNDREDS of mourners today (Thursday) attended the funeral of a 14-year-old girl who was found dead in her home.

Taylah Logan’s body was discovered in the bedroom of her house in Larkhall’s Firbank Avenue.

The third-year Larkhall Academy pupil was alone when the tragic accident occurred last Wednesday about 7.30pm.

Friends and pupils at the Academy joined relatives to say a final farewell to Taylah in St Machans Church, before being laid to rest at Larkhall Cemetery.

Her parents Karen and Billy have been left shattered by her death.

They were too upset to speak when the Advertiser contacted them on Tuesday.

Police probing the sudden death have ruled out foul play.

Chief Inspector Tom Aitken, of Hamilton Police Office, said: "We can confirm that we received a report of the death of a 14-year-old girl within her home in Larkhall about 7.30pm last Wednesday.

"There would appear to be no suspicious circumstances surrounding her death and a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal."

Tributes have been pouring in to Taylah’s Bebo site.

One read: "She was the best lassie you could meet. She cheered me up and was always there to help."

Another said: "I miss all the good times; you were such a good pal. We can’t believe you have gone.

"At least you’re in heaven now and you can see how much we all love and miss you. We loved your smile."

A close friend added: "I will find it hard in maths and art because I sat next to you and I will always remember the classes we had the laughs in.

Another said "RIP Taylah", and added: "God only takes the best. We will always love you, goodnight sweet angel."

Tom Dingwall, head teacher at Larkhall Academy, said staff and pupils were shocked to learn about Taylah’s death.

He added: “Her friends in school have been supported by our staff and colleagues from South Lanarkshire Council, as we all come to terms with Taylah not being with us any more.

“Our thoughts are very much with Taylah’s mum and dad and family, and we will contribute whatever we can to help them at this sad time.”

Larkhall Labour councillor Andy Carmichael was also saddened by the tragedy.

“No-one in the community likes to hear something like this has happened,” he said.

“It’s a tragedy and  my sympathies go out to the girl’s family.”

Lesley McDonald,  SNP councillor for the area, paid her respects to the youngster.

“I am sad to hear what happened to the girl,” she said.

“I extend my sympathies to her family and relatives and also to her friends at the school.”
