Supporters "live the dream" despite touts taking their toll

LANARKSHIRE’S Rangers supporters headed south yesterday (Wednesday) for their team’s Uefa Cup final clash with Zenit St Petersburg.

Many were without tickets but were determined to be in Manchester for the game.

A 52-strong group of Udston Rangers Supporters made the 200-mile journey.

None had tickets, although some had tried to get hold of the precious briefs and had been stung.

Bus organiser Tom Anderson (44), from Burnbank, said: ”A couple of the guys from Burnbank attempted to purchase tickets on the internet.

“One paid £1800 for six tickets thinking he was getting a bargain at £300-a-piece. However, the tickets have yet to arrive in the post.

“Another fan I know paid £850 for one ticket, and similarly he is still waiting on it — with little hope of it arriving before we leave on Wednesday at 8am.”

Speaking on Monday, Tom added: “Rangers have seen a big change since Paul Le Guen departed before last season.

“Since Walter Smith arrived we again have stability and the individual players perform as a team.

“It is all Rangers men that are back in charge now, much to the supporters’ delight.”

Tom was unwilling to predict a score, but thinks Rangers will win.

He added: “I think we will be welcomed by the Mancunians this week during the game, the post-match celebrations or commiserations, depending on the scoreline.

“We are going to enjoy ourselves, and have a drink and party but not one of us is going to cause any trouble.

“We are living the dream.”
