FORMER Hamilton South MP Lord Robertson lifted Labour’s spirits at the recent first Judith Hart Memorial Lecture.
Lord Robertson of Port Ellen gave the inaugural Judith Hart Memorial Lecture to a well-attended Parliamentary dinner held at the Cartland Bridge Hotel, Lanark.
In a tribute to the memory of one of Labour’s greats and Lanark’s very own, Lord Robertson reminded the 120 guests of the proud history of Lanarkshire for electing outstanding woman MPs.
The master of ceremonies for the evening was leading journalist Tom Brown, who took charge of introducing the special guest of honour, supported by an array of local entertainers, including a trio of musicians from Holy Cross High School, Hamilton, with Lanarkshire's outstanding after-dinner speaker, the county’s former procurator fiscal, Jim Robertson.
Speaking after what he described as a very special moment in Lanarkshire’s political history, Jimmy Hood MP said: “Guests attending this memorial lecture were treated to a par-excellence performance from Lord George Robertson at his very best. The title of his lecture was Security in the World where, as the former Secretary of State for Defence in Tony Blair’s Cabinet (1997-99) and Secretary General of NATO (1999-2003), he enthralled with his amazing knowledge of security issues confronting the world.”
