Gas works to cause more road misery for Hamilton drivers

Delays are in prospect for Hamilton drivers

HAMILTON’s motorists are facing further delays as the second phase of a Scotland Gas Networks (SGN) project gets underway.

The works, which are expected to take up to three weeks to complete, are due to begin on Burnbank Road on Monday.

Work by SGN on Almada Street has now finished.

After completing the work in Burnbank Road, they will move on to Wellhall Road, up to the junction with Allanshaw Industrial Estate, for a further three weeks.

All works are programmed to finish by July 7, following a final phase on the right filter lane from Almada Street to Peacock Cross.

A spokesman for South Lanarkshire Council, said: “Drivers should experience minimal disruption during the forthcoming work on Burnbank Road as the existing traffic island at Clydesdale Street has been altered to ensure that two-way traffic can still flow. The pelican crossing at this location will also remain operational.

“During the works on Wellhall Road, there will be no access to traffic coming into Hamilton from Allanshaw Industrial Estate and drivers are advised to find an alternative route. Motorists will still be able to travel uphill from Peacock Cross via a signed diversion along Hillhouse Road, Pollock Avenue and Burnbank Road.
