THE Scottish Tree Trust outdoor classroom, based in Greenfield Farm, Drumclog, were awarded £1500 from Scottish Power’s environmental charity, The Green Energy Trust.
Since the Trust was set up, £926,860 has been donated to 91 local renewable energy initiatives UK-wide including the project at Greenfield Farm.
The money is to install solar panels in the Scottish Tree Trust outdoor classroom, which gives scout groups and schools a place to explore renewable energy. The panels provide enough energy to keep the outdoor classroom well lit.
ScottishPower, who are celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Trust, have been leading supporters of renewable electricity and have been working with customers to fund community-based projects nationwide.
Alison McKean, head of environment at ScottishPower, said: “We have been amazed at the range and scale of the projects we have been able to help over the years including the Greenfield Farm project in Drumclog.
“It was really about us doing our bit for the environment and helping our customers to do the same.”
The charity, which aim to help reduce reliance on fossil fuels and combat climate change, can provide up to 50 per cent of the renewable element of the project costing up to a maximum of £25,000.
ScottishPower have been green pioneers for the last decade.
