Education Trust hand out grants

AMBITIOUS young people and youth groups in Lanarkshire have received a financial boost from the Lanarkshire Educational Trust Scheme.

The trust aim to give financial support to people for a number of educational purposes.

These include travel scholarships, travel grants, research scholarships, assistance for clubs or organisations for young people and special educational equipment for schools.

During 2007-2008, 89 grants — totalling over £53,000 — were awarded to individuals, groups and clubs by the Trust, who have helped thousands of young people since the 1930s.

The latest awards included musicians attending either the Junior Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama or the National Youth Orchestra.

The Scottish Bowling Association’s summer programme was supported and Strathclyde Rowing Club and St James Football Club were given money to buy equipment.
