We need more litter bins in Burnbank!

Douglas Sneddon

A MAN who dumped a chip poke in the street is now campaigning for more public litter bins.

Douglas Sneddon has hit out at the lack of bins in the Burnbank Centre.

The 37-year-old was walking home from a Burnbank Centre takeaway when he dropped his empty chip paper near a garden fence.

He returned to the fast-food outlet next day and was told off by staff who had seen him drop the packaging.

Douglas, of George Court, Burnbank, said he felt embarrassed and added: “I realised my mistake and now I would like to do something about it by helping to get more bins in Burnbank.

“Even if I wanted to put my chip poke in a bin, there were no litter bins in this area.

“There are two bins in the main street in the civic centre but that’s about it.”

He added: “Burnbank is a spotless place and it should be kept that way. There are a lot of schools in the area and the children do well at keeping the area tidy.

“But we should be encouraging them more to put rubbish in bins.

“I would definitely like to see the council introduce more bins in the area.

“I live beside a grassy area and there is also no bins for dog dirt or nappies. People have to take the dirt home with them and dispose of it that way.

“I would like to see more litter bins for dog dirt.

“I am just trying to help the community in anyway I can.”

A South Lanarkshire Council spokesman said: “We have an ongoing programme of assessment of the need for bins and will shortly be assessing the Burnbank area.

“A decision on the supply of further bins will be made following our assessment.”
