LANARKSHIRE Philatelic Society enjoyed a display of stamps, postmarks and postcards from Elsie Miller at their recent meeting.
Her display featured the different events of Easter.
It followed Jesus through the Last Supper, Judas’ betrayal, the arrest, the trial, the scourging, Peter’s denial, the crucifixion, burial and resurrection and ended with the Ascension.
One stamp showed the dice with which Roman soldiers played to see who would get the seamless robe of Jesus.
After the interval, the display continued through the remaining books of the New Testament, showing Paul’s life and his various letters and to individuals.
The letter of Jude was illustrated with stamps showing St Michael defeating the devil.
Reverend Bruce McDowall proposed the vote of thanks for an informative and very enjoyable evening.
The final meeting of the season will be held in Hamilton on Friday, April 25. It will start at 7.30pm in St Andrew’s Parish Church hall, Avon Street.
Anyone with an interest in stamps, postal history, postcards etc will be very welcome to attend. Further information is available on the society’s website www.lanark shireps.co.uk
