Community groups urged to step forward for grant support

FORWARD Scotland are now welcoming grant applications from North and South Lanarkshire.

Forward Scotland administer the application, assessment and distribution of grants on behalf of landfill operator Viridor Waste Management.

The scheme offers grants from the Landfill Communities Fund for community projects in the vicinity of its landfill sites.

Applicants can apply for grants up to 75 per cent of a project’s cost to a maximum value of £30,000.

The types of projects that could be funded include the development or refurbishment of play areas, refurbishment of village halls and day centres, and the development of an environmental garden although all community projects can be considered.

The Landfill Communities Fund was established to help mitigate the effects of landfill upon communities.

It encourages partnerships between landfill operators, their communities and the voluntary and public sectors.
