Man drove at over 100mph on M74

A MOTORIST drove his car at over 100mph on the M74 near Hamilton.

Alan Beresford, of Beith, North Ayrshire, drove at 106mph on the northbound M74 at junction six on July 18 last year.

The speed limit for the road is 70mph.

At Hamilton Sheriff Court last week, Beresford admitted a speeding charge.

However, the 44-year-old denied driving without a licence or insurance on the same day.

Sheriff Danny Scullion deferred sentence on the speeding offence until June and granted the accused bail in the meantime.

Beresford is expected to stand trial in July on the remaining charges.
