Eddlewood bowling green opens as club mark their 100th birthday

MEMBERS of Eddlewood Bowling Club should note that the green will open for the new season on Saturday.

The opening ceremony will take place at 3.30 pm.

Members of the public are invited to the event, which also marks the Hamilton club’s 100th birthday.

Due to attend are South Lanarkshire Provost Russell Clearie, MP Jimmy Hood, MSP Tom McCabe, Lord Lieutenant of Lanarkshire Gilbert Cox, Lanarkshire Bowling Association president David McDonald and representatives from the Scottish Bowling Association.

An invitation has also been issued to relatives of the miners who helped build the green early last century.

The green was laid on January 24, 1908, and was officially opened on July 4 that year by the Watson family of Neilsland House, who owned collieries in the area.
