Mass to mark Uddingston priest's jubilee

A GOLDEN jubilee mass has been held for Viewpark parish priest Canon Edward Glackin.

Celebrants at the thanksgiving mass included seven altar servers and 15 priests led by Archbishop of Glasgow Mario Conti and diocesan Bishop Joseph Devine.

Dignitaries, including MP Tom Clark and MSP Michael McMahon, also attended.

Canon Glackin was born in 1934 in Craigneuk and educated at St Patrick's Primary School, Shieldmuir, and Our Lady’s High School, Motherwell.

He has served at five churches in the diocese since being ordained in 1958, and attended St Mary’s College, Blairs, and the Royal Scots College, Valladolid, Spain, where he was spiritual director from 1969 to 1973.
