HAMILTON Grammar pupils presented cheques worth £1157 to St Andrew’s Hospice after competing in a charity race.

Forty pupils and staff from the school took part in the 10K St Andrew's Hospice Fun Run last September and undertook further fundraising activities in order to reach, then exceed, their £1000 target for the Airdrie hospice.

This is the ninth year staff and pupils have taken part in the fun run.

Georgie Shute, a business studies teacher at Hamilton Grammar, has been actively involved in organising the event within the school since the race began almost a decade ago.

He is delighted with the increase in numbers of runners at the event, which has gone up from about 400 in the first year, to several thousand.

He said: “Well done to everyone who took part and also to friends and families who sponsored them.

“A special thanks to Janine Gallagher who, for the last two years, has raised a minimum of £200 on each occasion.”

Representative Gwyneth McCormick, the school liaison officer, accepted the cheques on behalf of the organisation.
