Man (35) denies assault charge

A MAN last week denied brandishing a belt and snooker cue at another man in a Hamilton restaurant.

Anwar Jaan (35), of no fixed abode, pleaded not guilty at Hamilton Sheriff Court to assaulting Steven McCluskey at the Metropole Restaurant, Quarry Street, on October 15, 2006.

Jaan is said to have repeatedly pushed Mr McCluskey and brandished a belt and a snooker cue at him.

Sheriff Danny Scullion set Jann’s trial date for June 20. Bail was continued.
