Fairhill lorry driver almost hit policemen

A HAMILTON driver who overtook a lorry, and caused two police officers standing in a layby to take evasive action to avoid being struck, has been fined £300.

Edward Williamson (30), of Burnhouse Crescent, Fairhill, also had his licence endorsed at Dumfries Sheriff Court.

Williamson had admitted a careless driving charge.

He had been driving on the A701 Dumfries to Beattock Road near St Anne’s last November.

The court was told the officers had stopped to check a vehicle at the layby, and as Williamson’s van approached and overtook, one officer had to pull the other one clear.
