Jail for man who hurt toddler and woman

A HAMILTON man who threw a toddler to the ground has been jailed for 13 months.

Charles Harvey (26), formerly of Linden Lea and now of Albert Street, pleaded guilty to culpably and recklessly throwing the boy, aged between one and four, to the ground in Peacock Cross.

During the incident on September 7, 2006, the youngster’s head struck the pavement and he was injured.

Later that day, Harvey told two police officers that he was Charles Miller and not Charles Harvey in an effort to evade arrest and pervert the course of justice.

He pleaded guilty to both offences in December, 2007.

On February 16, 2007, Harvey was with the same boy at an address in Bellshill after he was bailed not to approach him.

Furthermore, the Hamilton man pushed a woman on the body and knocked her to the ground at an address in Hamilton on December 27 last year.

He admitted these crimes at subsequent court appearances.

At Hamilton Sheriff Court, Sheriff Vincent Smith jailed Harvey to 13 months in total for the offences.

He was sentenced to five months for throwing the boy and for trying to pervert the course of justice, five months for the assaulting the woman and three months for approaching the toddler.

Sheriff Smith pointed out that four months of the sentence had been imposed as the offences had been committed while the accused was on bail.
