Hamilton vandals go on tyre-slashing spree

ANGRY motorists were left counting the cost after vandals slashed 11 car tyres during a wrecking spree in two streets in Hamilton.

The hooligans caused more than £800-worth of damage when they targeted six vehicles parked in Shawburn Street and Earnock Street in the Burnbank area.

The mindless vandalism occurred between 6pm on Friday and 8am the following day.

The cars’ owners woke up to find that their vehicles had been trashed and reported the matter to police.

A police spokeswoman this week appealed for witnesses.

“We don’t know who is behind this,” she added.

“The complainer got up in the morning and found that their cars’ tyres had been punctured.

“Most of the tyres damaged are to the offside of the road.

“This appears to be random vandalism on six cars, resulting in 11 burst tyres.

“We want to hear from anyone who saw anything suspicious or who knows who did this to contact police immediately.”

Residents have also complained about other vandalism in the area in recent weeks.

Police believe that this may not be connected to the latest incident.

Anyone with information should contact Hamilton Police Office on 483300, or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111, where calls are free and anonymity can be maintained.
