THE University of the West of Scotland’s midwifery courses were awarded yesterday (Wednesday) the UNICEF (United Nations Children’s Fund) Baby Friendly Award for best practice standards in breastfeeding education.
The University of the West of Scotland (formerly Bell College) and King’s College London (KCL) will be the first two universities to receive this brand-new UNICEF UK Baby Friendly Award.
The University of the West of Scotland has had its courses for midwives successfully accredited by UNICEF, meaning that students demonstrated a high level of knowledge and skill around breastfeeding, while course content and teaching levels were also seen to meet Baby Friendly standards.
