HAIRMYRES Hospital’s specialist thoracic surgery service is moving to a new site.
The unit is being transferred to the West of Scotland Cardiothoracic Centre based in the Golden Jubilee National Hospital in Clydebank.
NHS chiefs say the move to the new single site is designed to bring all cardiothoracic surgeons on to one location, allowing patients to be treated faster using the latest equipment and diagnostics techniques.
The transfer was agreed three years ago as part of a restructuring of cardiothoracic services in the West of Scotland. NHS Lanarkshire say patients will benefit from the greater number of specialist doctors now available to them.
Patients will also be treated using the latest equipment.
NHS manager Adrian Dalby said: “NHS Lanarkshire is improving and modernising the way in which health services are provided to make sure our patients have access to the highest quality of care throughout the county.
Thoracic surgery entails the repair of organs in the chest.
