Rotarians are on the ball for successful sportsman’s dinner

HAMILTON Rotary held an international evening attended by students from Malawi.

The students currently attend the University of the West of Scotland as part of a Scottish Government-funded project to design and construct a containerised clinic for rural areas of their county.

Jack, Margaret and Max explained the unit will be powered by a combination of battery, solar panels and wind turbines and when the prototype is complete it will be shipped to Malawi and the students, who are taking degrees in engineering, will take back their acquired skills to continue production of the units in their country.

Hamilton Rotary’s annual charity Sportsman’s Dinner was held at the Banqueting Hall in Almada Street, Hamilton.

Rotary president Bernie Crozier welcomed everyone to the event and Sandy Penman was an excellent Master of Ceremonies.

Ex-Scotland, Celtic and Bayern Munich footballer, Murdo McLeod, gave an amusing account of his football career. He also provided anecdotal comment on some of the characters of the Scottish football scene.
