Make a difference in Fairtrade Fortnight

Fairtrade Fortnight is February 25 to March 9 and it is your chance to promote Fairtrade where you live, work and worship.

Fairtrade has improved the lives of millions of people - farmers, workers and their families - in developing countries.

And many more people are joining the campaign to ensure people know that buying Fairtrade products can make a positive difference.

To mark the start of Fairtrade Fortnight, members of Hamilton's Fairtrade Town Committee (pictured right) were in Hamilton Town Centre on Saturday, February 23, encouraging people to peel it, munch it, wear it, and make Fairtrade part of their daily life.

Hamilton became a Fairtrade Town in 2006.They were joined by staff from Marks and Spencer who are promoting Fairtrade goods in their store and by pupils from St Elizabeth's Primary School, Eddlewood, who were Hamilton's first Fairtrade school.

As Fairtrade Fortnight begins, the Scottish Government reinforced its commitment to supporting the drive to make Scotland one of the world's first Fairtrade Nations.

The Minister for Europe, External Affairs and Culture, Linda Fabiani, will attend a number of events during the fortnight.

Ms Fabiani said: "The Fairtrade movement has already made a huge and positive difference to the lives of many thousands of producers in developing countries.

"Fairtrade Fortnight presents an ideal opportunity to raise public awareness about the benefits of Fairtrade and I'm delighted to be part of that."
