Second man appears in court in connection with shooting

A SECOND person has appeared in court following a shooting in Blantyre charged with four firearms offences.

Gary McFadyen (26), of Berkley Drive, Blantyre, made no plea or declaration when he appeared in private at Hamilton Sheriff Court last week.

He was remanded in custody pending further police enquiries.

McFadyen has been charged with a breach of the peace, two assaults to severe injury, and four firearms charges.

The alleged offences are in connection with the shooting of 33-year-old Blantyre dad Barry Simpson.

Mr Simpson suffered stomach wounds following an incident outside his home in Ballantrae Road on January 22.

He was taken to Hairmyres Hospital and discharged a week later.

The four firearms charges against McFadyen include an illegal shortening of the barrel of a gun, possession of a prohibited weapon, possession of a loaded shotgun and possession of a firearm.
