BUS inspectors have returned to South Lanarkshire.
As the Advertiser reported last week, Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) expanded their bus wardens scheme into the county last Friday.
SPT’s bus wardens will target “cowboy bus operators” in a bid to improve the standard of bus provision in South Lanarkshire.
The scheme has already proved successful in Renfrewshire where the bus wardens have actively monitored the services in Paisley town centre since November.
The Traffic Commissioner of Scotland, Joan Aitken, praised SPT for giving priority to Strathclyde’s bus users.
She said: “More people depend on bus travel in Strathclyde than in any other area of Scotland.
“Passengers need to know that the bus will turn up when it is meant to and that it will do so in a safe and pleasant condition.
“I hope that this initiative will spell the end for poor-performing operations in the west of Scotland.”
