Order is taken out to save ancient trees

A TREE preservation order was this week placed on two Bothwell trees estimated to be more than 100 years old.

The council’s planning committee approved the order for two ash trees which stand behind number 16 Hamilton Road.

Planning chief Iain Urquhart described the trees as “valuable specimens” which enhance the area.

He said: “It was brought to the council’s attention by a resident of 16 Hamilton Road, Bothwell, there were several trees to the rear of the property which were in danger of being felled.

“The council’s arboricultural manager inspected a group of three trees and found that one of them was in a dangerous condition and should be removed.

“The two remaining ash trees are substantial specimens which are over 100 years old.

“These trees were found to be of good quality and made a significant contribution to the general amenity of the area.”

He concluded: “The tree which was found to be in a dangerous condition has since been removed.”
