Woman charged with murder of boyfriend

A BOTHWELL woman yesterday (Wednesday) appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court charged with the murder of her boyfriend.

Marion Grierson, of 1 Carrick Way, made no plea or declaration and was remanded in custody by the court.

She was arrested following the death of 50-year-old Edward Quinn.

In an appearance in private at the sheriff court, Grierson faced charges of murdering Mr Quinn, and a second of assaulting him to his injury.

The 44-year-old was committed for further examination.

She is likely to appear before the sheriff court again next week.

Police were called to an incident at a home in Carrick Way, Bothwell, on Tuesday afternoon.

Officers, who went to the house, found Mr Quinn suffering serious injuries.

He was taken to Hairmyres Hospital in East Kilbride but was pronounced dead a short time later.

Henry Maxwell (72), who lives with his wife Helen (69) in Carrick Way, returned home to find that police had cordoned off the area.

He told the Advertiser: “I had been out that afternoon but when I got back there was a police van sitting outside and officers had taped off the area covering my door.

“We were unable to get back inside our home for over an hour and were shocked to find out what happened.”

Another resident said: “I was walking home with my son when I saw the police cars around 5.30pm.

“A policemen was standing outside the home and the area was cordoned off for about 100 yards.

“There were groups of people standing in the street wondering was had gone on.”

It is understood Edward had moved to the area over a year ago.

On Tuesday following the incident, a police spokesman said: “A 44-year-old woman has been arrested and is presently detained in police custody following the death of a 50-year-old man in Bothwell.

“The man received serious injuries following a disturbance at a house in Carrick Way, Bothwell, around 12.50pm on May 6.

“He was removed to Hairmyres Hospital where he died a short time later.

“A report will be sent to the fiscal.
