Bothwell news in brief

BOTHWELL Horticultural Society are holding their annual plant sale on Saturday, May 17.

It will be open from 9.30am onwards outside Bothwell Parish Church Centre.

Those who go along will be able to buy herbaceous plants from members’ own gardens and a variety of bedding plants.

BOTHWELL and Uddingston Inner Wheel Club welcomed two volunteers from the Hamilton branch of the Samaritans as guest speakers at their April meeting.

After a brief history of how the Samaritans began, members were given an insight as to what happens at the Hamilton branch, one of 20 branches in Scotland and 203 nationwide.

Volunteers at Hamilton give their time freely. They are good listeners, who treat their clients with total confidentiality.

Ann Kegg gave the vote of thanks for a thought-provoking evening.

PEOPLE living in Bothwell are being urged to donate blood when the Blood Transfusion Service visit the area this month.

The mobile donating team will be available at St Bride’s Pastoral Centre, Fallside Road, on Monday, May 19, from 4pm till 7.30pm.

Support for the service is needed to help provide the 1000 units of blood required every day to meet the demand to treat patients in Scottish hospitals.
