UDDINGSTON Grammar is getting set to say farewell to its current building.
The school, which has been on the Station Road site for 100 years, is about to move into a new £18.1m building on Old Glasgow Road this August.
The school has organised a number events as a goodbye to the old building which was erected in 1908.
Depute headteacher Joan Haston said this week: “We thought it would be appropriate to hold some events to celebrate the building’s 100 years - especially since the grammar will soon be moving to a new building.
“One of the highlights will be open nights in June which will give ex-pupils and ex-members of staff an opportunity to say goodbye to the old building.”
The school has also put books in Viewpark, Uddingston and Bothwell libraries for people to write down their memories of the Station Road building.
Another book has been placed in the foyer of the school.
“Anyone who wishes to put down their thoughts is welcome to contribute,” said Mrs Haston.
“We are also looking for old photographs to go along with people’s memories of the building.
“The books, and other Grammar archive material, will be available to view during the open evenings.
“We hope they will be a warm and fitting tribute to the school during its time in the Station Road building.
“We’re looking forward to hearing from everyone with their memories for what should be a nostalgic occasion.”
The open nights will be held on Tuesday June 3 and Wednesday, June 4, between 6.30pm and 8.30pm.
There will also be a special centenary show at the school in June.
“It will be a compilation of all the school shows over the years and is sure to be a great evening,” Mrs Haston said.
Photographs for inclusion in the books can be taken to the school.
Those wishing to keep their photographs can have them copied there before they are returned.
Plans have been submitted to retain the original Station Road building and convert it into eight flats.
The remainder of the site is earmarked for 112 flats, car parking and amenity space.
The proposals have still to be determined by the council.
