Road repairs: delays and diversions

BLANTYRE motorists will face delays when a section of a busy road is shut for essential repairs.

The southbound slip road at Glasgow Road on the A725 will be closed on Saturday, May 30, from 5am until 5pm for work on potholes.

Drivers will be diverted via Russell Street to the on-slip road at Main Street, Blantyre.

The busy A725 is the main route from East Kilbride through to the Shawhead roundabout in Coatbridge.

Ken Bryden, Amey’s network area manager for south west Scotland, said: “When scheduling works of this nature, timing is paramount and a great deal of consideration is given to the safety of the workforce and the travelling public. “

Motorists should allow extra time for journeys, pay attention to traffic signs and show due care while passing through the works.

Amey urge drivers to take a ‘Cone Sense, Common Sense’ approach to roadworks. They are advised to:

Keep to the speed limit. It has been implemented not just for drivers’ safety but the workforce’s too. Speeding vehicles area a serious threat to staff;

Concentrate on the road ahead, not the roadworks;

Be alert for roadworks traffic and personnel leaving or entering the safety managed roadworks site;

Keep a safe distance – there could be queues in front;

Observe all signs – they are there to help you;

Get into the correct lane in good time and don’t keep switching.
