Calderside Academy Fairtrade group help the Haven

THE FAIRTRADE Group from Calderside Academy visited The Haven on the last day of the summer term to present a cheque for £165.

The pupils had a tour round the centre to see for themselves the range of services provided for families and their carers who are coping with life-limiting illness and diseases such as cancer and Motor Neurone Disease.

The Haven therapist Helen Lawson explained how aromatherapy helps clients to relax and Margaret Buttery, who is a trained volunteer at the centre, talked to the pupils about the Headstrong service, which is available at The Haven.

A spokesperson for The Haven said: “It is great to hear how successful the Fairtrade Group at Calderside Academy has been in sourcing and selling Fairtrade bags.

“The donation to The Haven will be used directly to support the families and their carers who turn to The Haven for support at a difficult time.”
