MSP for Central Scotland, Margaret Mitchell, has called for increased community policing in light of recent youth crimes in Blantyre and East Kilbride.
Commenting on incidents of fighting at Calderside Academy, Blantyre, on May 29 and continued vandalism at a block of flats in Calderwood, East Kilbride, she said: “A minority of young people have total disregard for others in the local areas and continue to cause havoc.
“This cannot be allowed to continue. The way forward is to ensure adequate community policing is available and also to remind parents of their responsibility to ensure that they are aware of where their children are and what their children are doing.”
She added that initiatives like Strathclyde Police’s ‘Choices for Life’, now in its 10th year, were central in educating young people to take responsibility for their own lives and actions.
