Green-fingered Blantyre kids help spruce up playground

PUPILS at St Joseph’s Primary School in Blantyre recently enjoyed a day of planting.

Last year, Community Links put in a bid on behalf of the school to South Lanarkshire Council’s Pride of Place team for money to spent on the school’s playground.

The school were successful and subsequently received a £1000 grant.

The school eventually decided to purchase five bench and table sets, a bench and six planters. In recent weeks, the children of St Joseph’s then held a planting day.

Everyone got involved to make this event a success.

The senior children of the school wrote letters to local businesses asking them for donations of plants or planting equipment, with Asda donating some items.

The days were a huge success with every child, including the nursery children, getting a chance to put in some plants and try out their new equipment.
