Man injured in blaze improves in hospital

A BLANTYRE man who suffered severe smoke inhalation after a chip-pan fire at his house is still in hospital.

Michael Knight (62), who stays at 8 Springfield Crescent, was taken to Hairmyres Hospital, East Kilbride, after fire engulfed his home on Friday, April 18.

As the Advertiser went to press this week, Mr Knight was said to be in a stable condition in a general ward at the hospital.

He had been taken off a ventilator and was being monitored by doctors.

Last week, he needed help with his breathing due to the effect of smoke inhalation.

A spokesperson from Strathclyde Fire and Rescue confirmed at the time that the blaze had broken out in the kitchen.

It is understood that a chip pan had been left unattended on the cooker.

Around 7.20pm on April 18, two fire engines from Hamilton Community Fire Station raced to Mr Knight’s semi-detached bungalow after they received a report of a fire in the house.

Firefighters entered the house and found Mr Knight lying unconscious in the living room. There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the fire.
