Blantyre's Haven care group expand services

A BLANTYRE group who provide information and support to people suffering from life-limiting illnesses have been given a cash boost.

The Haven received £1000 from Glasgow shopping centre Buchanan Galleries.

Opened in 2002, The Haven was originally set up to support cancer patients. They have now expanded to support those with Multiple Sclerosis, Motor Neurone disease, Parkinson’s and Huntington’s disease.

They operate on a drop-in basis and support people from all over Lanarkshire and the surrounding area by providing free information in their lending library and consultations with a specialist nurse. Also on offer are complementary therapies, counselling, group workshops and relaxation classes to relieve stress and anxiety.

The Haven will use Buchanan Galleries’ generous donation to update and expand their library, an essential element of the service which provides patients and their families with important information to help them understand their illness.

Connie Postlethwaite from the Haven said: “We are grateful for this donation from Buchanan Galleries. When first diagnosed with a life-limiting illness many people find it difficult to find accurate information and advice. Information is vital to understand and come to terms with diagnosis.

“This donation will go a long way towards improving our library by allowing us to provide our clients with the most up-to-date information.”

The money was donated by Buchanan Galleries through the bursary scheme.
