SUBARU owners are planning to smash two world records in their tribute to Lanark’s late rallying legend Colin McRae.
They are organising a mammoth convoy of Subaru cars from Lanark to the Subaru motorsport HQ in Banbury on August 30.
The organisers have also arranged to have a Guinness World Records adjudicator on site on the day.
They intend to smash two existing world records as part of their tribute to Colin, who, along with his son and two friends, died in a helicopter crash last year. It is hoped to break the world record for the most cars of a single marque in convoy.
“The current record is held by the FIAT 500 Club with 500 cars in convoy. We will have 1100-plus cars in convoy and will more than double the current record,” a club spokesman said.
The second record is most cars forming a mosaic/picture.
“This record was set in July by Volkswagen with 265 taking part. We will obliterate that with over 1000 cars in our tribute,” he added.
As part of the two-day memorial to one of world motorsport’s most respected figures, it has been arranged to have three of Colin’s rallying Subarus – his Legacy and his 1995 and 1996 Imprezas – on display. It is rare for all three cars to be seen together nowadays.
