Motor sport: 900 rally drivers to pay tribute to Colin McRae

A STAGGERING 900-plus Subaru owners, including some from Poland, have said they plan to take part in a special tribute to Colin McRae.

Subaru owners are planning to remember the late former world rally champion with a tribute weekend.

The McRae Gathering will see Subaru owners meet at Lanark on August 30 before starting on a long distance drive to Banbury, home of Prodrive, the Subaru team which ran Colin’s championship winning Impreza.

The event organisers said this week that they have around 880 registrations with more coming in daily.

These figures did not include a Polish contingent, nor a group of Scots from the central belt who registered at the start and had yet to be added to the database.

This means that if everyone turned up then more than 900 Subarus would be taking part in the McRae convoy.

“This is going to be massive and not to be missed, the world’s biggest Subaru event,” said one of the organisers, who added that not all of the 900+ Subarus were expected to leave from Lanark.

They have arranged pick-up points at motorway services from Abington right across England for those who could not make the trip to Lanark.
