Hamilton Grammar wins top enterprise award

HAMILTON Grammar School was recognised for their efforts by the Social Enterprise Academy on June 9, held at the Centre for Contemporary Arts in Glasgow.

The school were recipients of the Social Enterprise Award, one of only two in South Lanarkshire to be recognised this year – and the only High school.

Stuart Bence, Dawn Swiffen and Fraser Porteous represented the school and collected the award, and are pictured with business education teacher Marcus McGowan.

The award celebrated Social Enterprise activities taking place in the school such as the groundbreaking work of the Eco Group and the Carbon Offset Project, which also involved the school’s Young Enterprise group gaining sponsors for acres of Mango Farm in Ghana; and Frozoz, a group of young people who created, sold and promoted the school’s very own healthy smoothies.

Headteacher Colin Stewart said: “I am delighted that the hard work and community spirit of our young people is again being recognised. We are very proud to accept this award and will continue to encourage our young people to be effective contributors to the school and the wider community.”
