School to hold health event

DALZIEL High School in Motherwell is gearing up to host its annual Health Fayre next week.

This is the school’s 15th fayre and it will run from March 9-13.

This year’s event has been entitled ‘Food for Thought' and will be opened by chef John Quigley of Red Onion in Glasgow.

His reputation and expertise in producing healthy options is well-known and he will make a valuable contribution to the opening ceremony.

Also present will be former pupil Jonathan Paterson who was captain of the British paralympic football team in Beijing - a great achievement.

As always the assembly hall will be the main centre for the event with a large number of volunteers again happy to pledge their support and man the stalls for the whole week. These include Strathclyde Community police, UK Juicers, School Catering Services, Motherwell College, Blood Donor Programme, Glasgow rugby, St Andrews Ambulance, Community Police, North Lanarkshire Leisure and Motherwell Football Club.

There is also a wide-range of activities throughout the week to get pupils involved at lunchtimes.

These include the very popular staff versus pupils rowing competition, beach volleyball, Strictly Dalziel Dancing, basketball competition and Primary Sportshall Athletics.

One of the most important events is the visit by the Blood Donor team who will be at the school on Thursday, March 12.

All S6 pupils will receive a talk about the importance and ease of donating and all staff, parents and friends of Dalziel are welcome to attend and donate.
