Starring roles for pupils in new film

PUPILS from Udston Primary School, Hamilton, were this week treated like stars of the silver screen after taking part in a movie premiere project.

The P5 pupils, as part of an enterprise school curriculum project, decided to make a movie based on Roman times.

After researching, script writing, editing, acting and filming, the movie was ready for viewing this week.

The red carpet was rolled out in the school’s gym on Tuesday, and the place was transformed into a cinema for the day.

All the pupils had important jobs to do acting as cinema manager, ushers, box office sales assistants, ticket collectors and cleaners as well as the all-important popcorn attendants.

Teacher Lee Matchett, who pulled the whole project together with the children, said it had been a very enjoyable experience for everyone.

She added: “The children put their heart and soul into this project from the beginning.

“They took everything about running a business on board and had a great success with the movie and all its elements.

“All of the pupils have worked really hard on this since last October and their determination has paid off,.

“It has been an overwhelming success for everyone involved in the project.”

The pupils did, of course, enjoy a VIP after-show party, and received their critics highly complimentary comments, whilst enjoying refreshments, just like a real Hollywood premiere occasion.

For the price of their £1 ticket, guests and movie-goers received complimentary popcorn, sweets and juice.

Parents and friends who attended the premiere said that all the children deserve the highest praise for their efforts.

The Udston school movie includes four mini programmes, comprising ‘Roman News’, ‘Rome’s Been Framed’, ‘Black and White Slapstick Comedy’, and ‘Roman Gladiators’, which includes chariot racing and sword fighting.
