Soccer students finally reach their goal

THE latest Score Goals Initiative at Motherwell Football Club concluded last week at Fir Park.

Motherwell manager Mark McGhee was on hand to present the awards to the pupils who successfully completed the course.

The initiative aims to provide an educational input on social and life skills, drugs awareness, the promotion of fitness, community relations and behaviour.

Schools selected youngsters aged between 12 and 14 they felt would most benefit from the scheme.

The course is coordinated by crime reduction officer constable Dougie Denholm, of Strathclyde Police, along with Motherwell’s SFA Community Coach and Chief Scout Bobby Jenks.

Constable Denholm said: “This course consisted of 20 pupils from the North Lanarkshire Council area and 22 pupils from the South Lanarkshire Council area, the first time that a Pan-Lanarkshire Youth Diversion Initiative has taken place at Motherwell Football Club.“
