Hannah best by design

LANARK Primary School pupil Hannah Aitken has won the annual design a Christmas card competition organised by MSP Karen Gillon.

And one of the three runners-up came from Carluke, Emily Noak of St Athanasius’ Primary School.

There were more than 600 entries for the design competition, coming from 24 primary schools within the MSP’s constituency.

“The standard of the entries was, as always, extremely high and the pupils have obviously put a lot of effort into their designs.

“It was a hugely difficult decision to narrow it down to a winner and three runners-up but in the end Hannah’s design just shaded it,” said the MSP during a visit to Lanark Primary to meet the winning designer.

Hannah’s design featured a classic Christmas scene of the Three Wise Men approaching Bethlehem bearing gifts for the baby Jesus.

The card was used as Mrs Gillon’s official Christmas card.

The designs of the three runners-up, Amy McClure of Craigbank Primary School, Olivia Partridge of Netherburn Primary School and Emily Noak, of St Athanasius’ Primary School, all featured on the back of the card.

Speaking about the competition, Mrs Gillon added: “Once again the competition has been a magnificent success and I would like to congratulate all the children who have taken part.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the organisations who supported this year’s competition. Scottish Coal, Marchstone Homes, Scotmid and Scottish and Southern Energy all entered into the Christmas spirit contributing towards the prizes, as well as printing and distributing the cards and A&J Printing in Lanark have made an excellent job of producing them.”
