Supercounty tribute to a super school

THE achievements of Dalziel High School have been recognised in an end-of-term presentation by Supercounty which has been operating now for 16 years as the Lanarkshire Civic Pride Campaign.

Ian Livingstone, chairman of Supercounty and a member of the school council, explained to a group of senior pupils: “We decided to make this award to recognise an outstanding school - you are simply the best in Scotland.

“Supercounty is in the business of recognising and rewarding excellence, with our remit covering a wide range of topics including sport, music, business and, in this case, education.”

Mr Livingstone added: “Our key role is to tell the people of Lanarkshire about the achievements by people of Lanarkshire, and this is our way of saying ‘thanks and well done' for achieving way above anything we could have reasonably expected.

“This award covers not only the recent highly commendable report from Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Education (HMIE) where the school was given three ‘Excellent' and two ‘Very Good' ratings.

“It also takes into account the Charter Mark Award for 1999, 2002, 2005 and 2008: the Motorola Award for Excellence for Education and Work Enterprise, the SQA Centre of the Year, Gold Award, and Health Promoting School, Gold Award."

The Supercounty chairman added: "This is our way of saying ‘'thanks and well done' to head teacher Brian Miller, teaching staff and pupils for all that you have achieved, and we wish you continued success in the future.
