WORKING in partnership with Strathclyde Fire and Rescue, schools in Lanarkshire are taking part in the FireReach Project.
A group of S3 boys from Calderside Academy are the first to take part in the initiative.
The boys spent a week out of school and visited various locations where they took part in various activities, including a simulated search and rescue scenario, and also learned basic first aid.
The purpose of the scheme is to provide training and development opportunities for young people in South Lanarkshire, which will encourage them to make the most of their mental and physical capabilities.
Rob Milligan from Calderside said: “These boys certainly enjoyed their week and although they found it very challenging and tiring it is an experience which they will never forget.
“We even have one pupil who is now determined to join the Fire and Rescue services.”
