New St John's Primary officially opened

PUPILS at St John’s Primary in Hamilton have a new school.

Their brand new primary was officially opened last Thursday.

The new school was built by Carillion plc as part of the £850m South Lanarkshire Council primary schools modernisation programme.

Sandra Duffin, head teacher, welcomed guests and colleagues.

The children then led the celebrations to mark the opening of their new school.

Councillor Mary Smith, chairman of the council’s education committee, unveiled a plaque to mark the occasion.

She said: “My thanks go to the council and Carillion plc for the marvellous job they did in designing and constructing what is a marvellous new school building.

"My thanks also go to everyone at St John’s for working together to support each other during the time when the new school was being built.”

The final part of the programme saw the Rev Robert Kent give a blessing before the children and the audience gave a resounding rendition of the St John’s Primary hymn.
